There's nothing like having a great new movie to look forward to, especially when it is just one of many that fit into your favourite genre! For Steampunk fans, the list of films released in the last few years has been spotty and slightly inconsistent, but in the coming 2024-2025 calendar there are so many films in the pipeline that you’ll have every weekend filled in no time at all! As a fantasy genre that melds industrial-era style with futuristic technology, Steampunk as a film genre is fun, creative, and always a good time. With so many great steampunk movies to choose from, and more coming soon, there is something for every steampunk film fanatic to enjoy.
Steampunk Movies to see in 2024-2025
Bioshock

Another in a long line of video game adaptions happening in the coming years, Bioshock is a beloved game series incorporating first person shooter and roleplaying elements to a retro futuristic setting. As one of the highest selling video games of all time, Bioshock has a dedicated fan base and a huge following who are excited to see this game series finally come to life! After many attempts to get a film adaptation made over the last decade, Netflix has entered the chat and is ready to get started!
While we don’t know too much just yet about the film’s plot, we can assume it will be set in the underwater city of Rapture and will hopefully feature character-player Jack as audiences are introduced to the city and the way its inhabitants are encouraged to modify themselves. Directed by Hunger Games and Constantine director Francis Lawrence, the Bioshock film is expected to be a huge undertaking with striking visuals and a true to the game story!
Dune: Part Two

The second part of Denis Villeneuve’s epic is continued with the release of Dune: Part Two in late 2023. Another in a string of film versions of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides as he navigates survival and political intrigue on the planet Arrakis.
Following on from the events in the first film, this sequel focuses on Paul and the Fremen fighting to win the war against House Harkonnen. Starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, Austin Butler, and many more heavy hitters in Hollywood, the second instalment of this huge tale is expected to be filled with amazing performances and stunning visuals! With so many books to draw from and a huge world created by Herbert, the possibility for future movies is high.
Hullabaloo

Created by a team of Disney animators hoping to preserve the art of 2D animation, Hullabaloo is the story of Veronica Daring, a brilliant scientist who returns from finishing school to find that her father is missing without a trace. An eccentric inventor, Veronica’s father Jonathan Daring creates amazing steam-powered inventions that are tested in the abandoned amusement park. This is where our protagonist meets Jules, a fellow inventor who aids in the search for Jonathan and who hopes to uncover secrets of Veronica’s father's work.
Hand drawn and with beautiful Steampunk style, this film is set to be a fun, cool adventure that will encourage girls to not only explore the joy of science, but also adventure!
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Reboot)

With the 2003 movie failing to reach the heights expected, it is little wonder that in the time of reboots this film is getting new life! Telling the story of characters Allan Quartermain, Mina Harker, Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde, the Invisible Man, Captain Nemo, and Dorian Grey, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman is based on the Steampunk comic series and features elements of storytelling that are always crowd favourites. Announced by Disney but with many details to still be considered, this adaption is expected to be released as a Hulu film focussing on the characters and their adventures. While there have been many attempts over the years to reboot this beloved series into a film, fans are hopeful that this is one rumour that follows through!
Mrs. Hawking: Lady’s Champion of London

Starting as a popular stage show, this short film follows young Mary Stone in 1880 London as she begins working for Mrs. Victoria Hawking. Mysterious and impersonal, Mrs Hawking is a society widow with a secret business; a champion of the women of London as she battles the villains of the London Underground. While not much information is available online about the film’s release, this is one to watch for!
2 Hell and Back

A Steampunk Western, this film is a retelling of the tale of Orpheus; a man’s journey to hell to save his wife. In this upcoming Jim Towns written and directed movie, gunslinger Wesley makes a deal with a demon and journeys forward into the depths of hell to save not only his wife, but also his young son. With no release date scheduled just yet, Steampunk fans will need to keep their eyes peeled for updates on what is sure to be an instant classic.
Society of Supernatural Sleuths

Based on Kailin Gow’s hit young adult novel series, Society of Supernatural Sleuths follows Scarlet, the daughter of archaeologists in 1890 as she uses her particular skill set to help Sherlock Holmes on a supernatural case. Once back in London from the heat of the Egypt, Scarlet discovers she harbors some interesting gifts and joins the Society of Supernatural Sleuths with its fascinating members. Between her, a vampire, a fae, and a secretive swordsman, the three form a strong alliance and begin to fight evil. In this upcoming tv show, audiences can expect magic, mystery, and secrets to be unveiled!
Mythic Waters: Shoki’s Bag
